We want to improve the children's play area on our local park by introducing equipment which will encourage more physical exercise - play equipment for stretching and jumping, not sitting and sliding.
Our project will complete the improvement of the children's play area on Conway Park. Over the last three years we have been able to introduce some new play equipment to replace old and dilapidated equipment which had been in use for the last fifty years - but the job isn't finished! Its time for 'The Final Stretch'! We want to bring our project to a fitting climax with new play facilities which will be more stimulating and exciting for today's youngsters, and which in addition will encourage them to be more physically active. This new equipment will challenge them to reach, stretch and bounce - not just to sit and slide. We want to make sure that the play facilities on our local park are a real asset to the area, and which will be a 'must-go' destination for local children but also for children of families who may be coming from further afield (perhaps to support youngsters who are taking part in matches against the junior football teams which have their home games on our park).

Why it's a great idea:
It will encourage children to enjoy physical exercise by providing new, age-appropriate play equipment which will be fun to use and which will get them bouncing, jumping and stretching. It will not only improve the heath and physical wellbeing of children but will also encourage greater social interaction - a play area with equipment which is up-to-date and safe to use will be an attraction for children of all ages and a place where they can enjoy meeting up and 'hanging out'.

VolunteerThe Friends of onway Park exist to bring about improvements to our local recreational area which will benefit residents and visitors alike. Over the past few years we have raised funds to buy new equipment for the children's play area, created new footpaths to enable all-year round access to all parts of the park and created a Coronation Walk with flower beds in celebration of King Charles' coronation. We have also organised community fun days, litter picks and balsam bashes as ways of bringing our community together and getting them involved in looking after their local park. The result has been that many more people are now using Conway Park for both formal and informal recreation, and it is being increasingly seen as a valued resource for improving our physical and mental wellbeing.
