More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

Keeping the area clear of litter instills pride in a clean environment. The residents are becoming more aware of importance of biodiversity, pollinator pathways etc through the planting we’ve done and conversations we have with each other while gardening and with passers-by.

The local economy

The local economy

Refreshments for events were bought at local shops.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

Shared learning between different generations and people with different degrees of gardening experience.. Increased conversations in the community about a wide range of topics, at coffee and chat sessions or passers-by stopping to talk. Outdoor classroom to learn about composting. Family planting days and other children’s activities to learn about seed planting or bulb planting, insects and habitats.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

Heritage features (railings and gate) have been preserved. We have liaised with Ilford Historical Society to write up the history of the Ilford Garden Suburb and how it relates to the history of Valentines Mansion. Regular small-scale cultural and creative activities in the community, sharing festivals and traditions. The installation of a library box to share books.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Regular outdoor activity of gardening. Also litter clean-up walks in the local streets and park. We’ve celebrated national events together such as the Queen’s Jubilee and King’s Coronation. Meeting point for social activities such as coffee and chat, or children’s Easter Egg hunt.
