By The Christmas Lunch Project
The Christmas Lunch Project team work with members of the community to provide all the ingredients to give a free Christmas Lunch Hamper to families in need at Christmas.
In 2018 the project delivered free hampers to 300 families with 675 children who would have not been able to eat a traditional Christmas Lunch. 65 Wolverhampton families received a hamper. The Team at Christmas Lunch project work together to food raise and fundraise to enable them to provide a free Christmas Lunch Hamper to families with children. The Hampers contain all the ingredients to ensure that families can enjoy a Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings on Christmas Day. This includes a Frozen Turkey, Stuffing Mix, Cranberry Sauce, Gravy Mix, Fresh Potatoes and fresh vegetables in addition to chocolates, biscuits, fruit juice and other festive treats. The team partners with organisations such as Schools, Churches and charities and Council Agencies to identify eligible families. Hampers are delivered to family homes before Christmas by a team of volunteers. The Project is organised and run entirely by volunteers who also source food and pack and deliver the hampers
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We intend to help more Wolverhampton Families this year. We are increasing from 65 families to 100 families. Families who have received a hamper have been able to eat a traditional Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day. This would not have been the case if they had not been nominated. The food that has been provided has allowed some families to use money that has been saved to buy presents for their children. We want to support more Wolverhampton families in need who have children in 2019. The project also gives people in the community and opprotunity to serve others in their community. There are several opportunites to volunteer in December.
Steps to get it done:
The project has been supported by many volunteers each Christmas. We have a volunteer project team, and volunteers also help to fundraise, donate food, collect food from partners, count food, pack food and deloiver the hampers. Our project offers a great opportunity for people to volunteer for a short period time and in turn see the joy and gratitude directly for themselves.
