We need to raise £12k as 20% match funding (of total project cost £62k) to create a new community hub classroom at Ruby's Yard. This log cabin space, along Coventry Canal, will have fantastic access to the natural world, a space for outdoor education, physical and social recreation and to allow local organisations to benefit from this unique green space. Currently the site can only support occasional outdoor events and we have to use temporary structures like marquees and porta-loos. The BIG BUILD project will see the construction of a large new eco open plan classroom style facility and will mean the site can be used on a regular basis by schools, voluntary sector and business organisations. We need your help to unlock £50k of funding from LEADER. Please pledge what you can, just £5 will go a long way! We expect to hear the outcome of our funding application for £50k in October and no money will be taken from your account unless we are successful in this application.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
There is now lots of evidence that spending time in nature can bring huge benefit to both of physical and mental health. This unique canal side space will create an important asset for people to take a step away from the busyness of modern life, reconnect with the natural world & the history of our canals. It will create an important space to learn new skills, build confidence self esteem whilst understanding the importance of working harmoniously with others. The installation of this eco classroom is the next big step to create a safe, accessible, inclusive and sustainable community facility which serves local young people, and promotes social interaction and learning. We need this facility in place so we can open the doors to group bookings, encourage shared use and increase opportunities for healthy outdoor recreation by schools, young people with special needs and other youth organisations serving in Atherstone and its surrounding neighbourhoods.
