The idea
Taking place on October 8th The Big Bad Tea Party is all about bringing fun and connection to the lives of 250 older people living on their own in Hammersmith and Fulham and surrounding areas
The Big Bad Tea Party aims to;
● Raise awareness of the issue of loneliness amongst our older community and to encourage all of us to take action.
● Raise funds to support the good work of Contact the Elderly & local elderly outreach charities.
● Raise the roof of the St Pauls Centre and give up to 250 older people a truly memorable day out.
The event will involve a range of entertainment including a well renowned swing band, a professional dancing demonstration and a raffle with prizes of ‘experience’s for an older person’. No tea party is complete without the obligatory tea and cake, which has been supplied by Fiona Cairns (cake maker for HRH Prince William and Kate’s wedding). It will be set against the backdrop of a cinema screen relaying images from the 50’s & 60’s.
What we'll deliver
- Transport for older guests
- All live entertainment on the day
- Large Cinema Screen Hire
Why it's a great idea
With an aging demographic it is important now more than ever to do what we can to support our older communities.
Loneliness – the facts*
● Over 1 million older people in the UK cite being “lonely often”.
● Over half of people aged over 75 are living on their own.
● Loneliness is directly linked to an increased likelihood of coronary heart disease and stroke.
Getting our older guest's out and engaging in our community whilst also providing information on the day about all of the available services in the borough which offer support on an ongoing basis is key to making a lasting difference.
We all have older relatives and unfortunately some older members of the community are less fortunate when it comes to family support structures available to them. We want to let them know that they are valued and this is why we are organising an event with a real wow factor attached:) Everyone deserves something to look forward to. We intend on making this an annual event in the borough.
