Crafty Cabin 2.0

The Askefield Project Ltd By The Askefield Project Ltd

We managed to get a log cabin last year from donations and grants to run our Challenge Askefield craft session but it so popular we have outgrown it already. We need another log cabin!

This project was funded on 13 Feb 2025!

We currently host Challenge Askefield, a crafty coffee morning on a Thursday where you can come along to make a different craft every week, as well as drink coffee (or tea!), enjoy cake, good company and make new friends. We are on a social farm where we used to host this in our open fronted barn, even in the middle of winter and it was still popular, but since we received funding for our log cabin, we have grown so much, we are now a victim of our own success!! What we would like is to purchase and install another identical log cabin and join it in to our craft cabin, giving us DOUBLE THE SPACE!!! We also use it for Farm Club on a Saturday and we host other events that would benefit from the extra space, including a craft fayre, pop-up pub nights, a Christmas event, corporate away days and we are hoping to start a youth club for neurodivergent young people. Another log cabin would make all the difference to us and give us space to expand our Challenge Askefield sessions safely.

What we'll deliver:

  • Purchase the log cabin
  • Install the log cabin complete with wiring and internal features
  • Advertise and expand our Challenge Askefield provision to more people

Why it's a great idea:

At last week's Challenge Askefield session we welcomed 15 people, one client in a wheelchair and one with a walking frame in our 6m x 5m log cabin with craft cupboards down one wall and a range of cupboards with tea and coffee making facilities down the back wall. Space is massively limited and once clients begin the craft, there is very little room to move around. In terms of fire safety, we are still within limits, but we are currently unable to advertise this provision as we have no more capacity. Clients are very keen to bring others to have the "Askefield Experience" (as our Steering Group recently described it) but we are not able to accommodate them. We do not have a booking system so have no idea who is coming each week and do our best to fit in whoever turns up, but with another cabin we could welcome so many more people!!

Steps to get it done:

  • The purchase of the log cabin kit
  • The preparation of the ground
  • Building the log cabin
  • Fitting out the internal wiring and furniture
  • Launch!
