Incredible Edible Handbridge was founded in 2019, when we started to transform a neglected urban space at Industry (former Boy’s Club), Overleigh Road, from a derelict patch of bare earth, bricks and pigeon poo into edible oasis aka community allotment providing veg, salad and herbs to the community. We've learnt a lot since then, despite Lockdown interruptions, and have organised Film Nights and the now regular autumn Big Soup Day. We love seeing people stopping to pick some veg and getting to know people at our regular meetings!
Now we want to create a "wildlife and wellbeing garden" in The Arches in the heart of Handbridge community.
Incredible Edible Handbridge is part of a national network of community growing projects. Community is at the very heart of Incredible Edible’s work and our growing patches are edible attractions to get people talking. From its inception, Incredible Edible sought to show how ordinary people can transform their own landscapes and turned disused plots into abundant sources of healthy food.
Working with whoever is willing, we create powerful connections through food, which lead people to believe that when we act together each of us is stronger for it.
