The idea
In the 1940's concrete pitches were installed and re-laid in the early 1990's to provide a training facility for youth players at Tetbury Cricket Club at the Recreation Ground.
These facilities have over the years fallen into disrepair, with the concrete cracked and coconut mats long disregarded, meaning the facility can no longer be used safely for training, or indeed any cricket activities.
The club has been on an upward trajectory and in the last six months things have gone better than we could ever have imagined. We've launched a veterans team, as well as a Ladies Softball Team (who in their first season incredibly went unbeaten and won their league!) and at the same time the number of players in our youth teams doubled too. We also attracted new players into our senior set up, meaning we'll be having three senior teams in 2022.
This means we've more games and training sessions than ever before, and we need the space to run all these, so regenerating the old nets is a must!
What we'll deliver
- Excavate the existing concrete nets
- Install new net facility
Why it's a great idea
Quite simply the project will allow us to sustain the growth of the club and continue to offer cricketing activities to everyone who wants to participate
Participating in sport offers so many benefits, no matter what your age or background, including:
*HEALTH - Playing team sports is proven to help with social and mental wellbeing while providing a powerful way to build fitness and reduce stress;
*COLLABORATION - Team sports means the focus is not on the individual and instead on the collaborative effort of the whole group, where everyone's hard work matters;
*SOCIAL SKILLS - developed through exploring team dynamics of co-operation and interaction, while also building on communication and social skills
*FRIENDSHIP - the team mates you meet on the pitch often become friends for life who you socialise with outside of sport, reducing isolation and potential vulnerabilities.
Alongside all that, we'll continue creating a great community that is a becoming a core part of Tetbury!
Steps to get it done
- Excavate existing concrete net facility
- Prepare and level ground for new net lanes
- Lay aggregate base and install net pitch surface
- Install net cages
- Get training!
