ABOUT US
Pop Recs is a social enterprise music venue, café and training hub based in a grade 2 listed building at 172-175 High Street West in Sunderland.
Autumn 2021 sees the launch of our POP project, an accredited Practical Opportunities Programme. The goal of the POP project is to provide practical, hands-on training, and mentoring opportunities to disadvantaged people who are keen about making a fresh start, so that they can develop life skills, live with self-worth, and contribute to society.
At Pop Recs we strive to create truly knockout food, serving up a variety of Neo-Neapolitan style pizza, artisan pies and bakes, locally produced Vaux beers, ethically sourced coffee, whilst providing outstanding service to our customers.
OUR SUPPLIERS
Pop Recs is proud to support local businesses who share our vision for home-made, fresh, ethically sourced produce. We partner with Hasbean Coffee for our beans, Vaux in Sunderland for our beer, Sunshine Cooperative, our neighbours at 170-171 for a wide variety of sustainably grown food that is directly sourced from local suppliers, De Giorgio in Whitburn, a traditional butchers for our meat, and Tony Guerilla for our reclaimed handmade bar counter, sound booth, café servery, tables, and chairs. Our staff clothing is ethically manufactured from Fairtrade cotton.
OUR PEOPLE
We are a community interest company with a vision to help disadvantaged people transform their lives through our socially responsible business. We have partnerships with local statutory and non-statutory organisations, such as Washington Mind Young People Project, the DWP and rehabilitation charities. We also work closely with other organisations in Sunderland by offering work experience opportunities to their beneficiaries.
After one year of delays during the national lockdowns, we are opening our doors in Autumn 2021 and look forward to welcoming you. We can’t wait to see you again!
