A new programme to introduce thousands of people to our new high street cultural hub and from there to Burnley's wonders of canalside. Ever seen traffic jams on the towpath? You will soon... T2T will link Town centre to Towpath with an invitation to a summer season of FREE have a go workshops in our new creative space, and then a chance to explore the magical space of the towpath, where time slows to a standstill. Families and children will explore and discover the unique industrial heritage of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Free, family activity will help both residents and visitors see the pride of Burnley from completely new angles. At the end of summer, Burnley's award winning festival gives hard pressed local families a vital, cost-free boost. This new programme will extend its footprint and add new dimensions with free have-a-go workshops, performances, water bus, canoes and a new Towpath Explorers Trail for children and their adults. Canalside will never be the same again.

What we'll deliver:

  • 20 sessions of FREE workshop activity through summer holiday
  • FREE canalside activity along the towpath and on the water
  • Music, performance and walkabouts
  • A newly designed Towpath Explorers Trail for children and families
  • Waterbus, canoeing and boats

Why it's a great idea:

Our FREE summer programme will introduce Burnley families to our new creative space on the high street, One Two Three. These creative sessions will link to canalside and Burnley’s award winning festival. Our new programme will take festival goers further - along the towpath and onto the water, with activities revealing the special magic of the towpath. This will give many people a first experience of Burnley's unique canalside heritage, and be a fantastic showcase for heritage assets that are often overlooked. For visitors, it will show off aspects of our town they may not expect. For many local people too, T2T will show off some of the best of Burnley, boosting pride of place. For local families struggling with the cost of living, the long summer holiday presents extra challenges. Our programme of FREE activities will be a blessing for hard pressed families with children. Our programme will be a showcase of the arts, offering work to dozens of creative professionals, mostly local.

Steps to get it done:

  • Six weeks of workshops at One Two Three through the summer holiday
  • Towpath and waterborne programme at August Bank Holiday weekend
