The English invented cricket. Now a fast-paced urban version of the sport - Cage Cricket - is catching on and with your help SW1 will host the first Cage!
We want to convert the multi-use games area on the Peabody Tachbrook Estate into a space that can be used to play Cage Cricket! This project will fund the cost of the equipment we need to convert the facility into a Cage.
The rules of Cage Cricket are simple: six people play at once, and it’s every person for themselves. Players rotate round, batting, bowling and fielding across four zones.
Everybody bats for six overs, and each time they're out they lose a point. You score when you bat, when you bowl and when you field.
With your help we can launch this exciting new sport in SW1! Peabody have provided the space for free and are offering 50% of the funding - we just need to raise a bit more to hit our funding target!
If you'd like Cage Cricket to come to SW1 please click "pledge" above to make a contribution. You'll only be charged if the project hits its funding target.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Cage Cricket overcomes the barriers that prevent most people playing cricket: lack of time, space, money and the sport's old-school elitist image.
Forget the green fields and whites - Cage Cricket is a fast-paced version of the game designed for confined urban spaces. No expensive gear required.
It's a great way to bring the game to a new audience - which is why Cage is backed by cricketing legends like Sir Ian "Beefy" Botham, former England Captain.
After an inspirational summer of sport, it's the perfect time to let this exciting new game loose on the streets!
Steps to get it done:
Cage Cricket Foundation is a registered charity.
