Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service aims to provide a safe future for survivors of domestic abuse in Canterbury, Ashford and Folkestone & Hythe.
It feels like every week you hear another story about a woman being killed by a current or former partner. Every day women and children are suffering the trauma of living in an unliveable situation, feeling trapped and unbelieved.
Rising Sun are here to change that. We provide specialist domestic abuse support to survivors aged 5 and above, helping them towards safety, recovery and to rebuild their lives. We ensure every survivor is listened to, believed and can access the support they need to find peace from the trauma of the past.
Domestic abuse is a pattern of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence, by a current or ex-partner, or by a family member. The majority of survivors we support are women but anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse, regardless of age, gender or sexuality, and we support anyone who has been affected by this insidious crime.
Our dedicated team of specialist and trauma-informed Independent Domestic Violence Advocates, Outreach and Support Workers are incredibly experienced, knowledgeable and highly-trained in the nuances of domestic abuse, offering support that isn’t available from generic services. Our services, which include 1:1 counselling, mentoring, group support, drop-in services, 1:1 support in the community, emergency safeguarding, supported accommodation for young women and more, are a lifeline to almost 2,000 survivors and their families each year.
