The idea

First & Last Mile introducing public scheduled bus services and developing them to a point where they can be taken over by other transport companies. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to one bus per week.

We work closely with the local community, becoming part of the local community. All our drivers live in West Oxfordshire and take pride in serving passengers and combatting social exclusion.

Community transport is for everyone, the young and the old, those holding down jobs and those who may have health or age challenges. Some of out communities we serve have not had a bus service for decades. We feel it is possible, even in the remotest locations to provide a service that promotes social wellbeing and cohesiveness.

FLM works with other community organisations to help ensure such services integrate well. It has a track record of innovation and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

What we'll deliver

  • Provide new shopper services
  • Provide access for young people to weekend services
  • Provide school transport where necessary

Why it's a great idea

The project will improve passenger mental health by provinding year-round independence and resilience to enable access to local services.

Community transport can be life-changing for those who otherwise suffer confinement and isolation. The project supports the local economy because those served use local shops for medical appointments, access to employment and sports and leisure facilities.

Steps to get it done

  • Running in 6 months time
  • Still running in a year's time
