We are a charity based in Worthing, we deliver creative educational projects to adults with learning disabilities. We would like to open our own charity shop in close proximity to where we deliver.
We deliver projects from West Worthing Baptist Church on South Street - & have been approached by the Worthing Cat Welfare Trust who currently run the charity shop just a few doors down from us on this road to ask if we would consider taking on the premises. They have informed us that the Worthing Cat Welfare Trust charity are intending to stop operating at this shop - & asked if we might be interested in taking it on. We would be really eager to take this on,as this is a dream opportunity for us to provide work experience opportunities for our participants who will be able to work in the shop & sell their own handmade products. Especially helpful is that the shop is so close to where we deliver. There will be an initial layout cost of setting the shop up to cater to the needs of our participants. Including the need for a new water heater, waste removal (possible skip), lighting, paint job/signage, shelving & refurb/reconfiguration -taking into account social distancing & accessibility
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We believe we meet several of the criteria for the West Sussex Plan with this project. The project will provide invaluable work experience for our adults with learning disabilities. Which can be managed closely & carefully due to the proximity of the shop to our main delivery premises. Studying the accounts for the shop, it would also provide the charity with extra financial support and enable us to become more self-sufficient ongoingly. We will also increase the operational hours of the shop - further increasing overall employment and volunteer opportunities.
