By Clayton-le-Woods Parish Council
A Crown Green Bowling competition where all 7 schools in the Parish compete in Clayton-le-Woods, Chorley
The Parish have historically run a Clayton Cup competition which comprises of simplified games of football, netball, hockey, obstacle courses etc. The Council are conscious that this annual event is sporty and not all children have the same skill set and may not be naturally suited to these kind of events. It was suggested to the Parish Council to run a Crown Green Bowling event to be more inclusive to the children of the Parish. This game is often suited to children/people who are not naturally "sporty" but they can excel in this skilled game. The Parish Council have agreed to fund this event with costs estimated at £1000 for equipment, hire of sports hall and medals/winners cup. The event is booked over 2 days at Clayton Green Sports Centre on 15th and 18th April. 4 schools will take part 1 day and 3 the other. Bowls Buddies are planning and running the event with volunteers from the Parish Council. All 7 schools are eager to take part and have committed one of the days.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
8 children from each school will take part in the event and we are asking schools to bring children who aren't naturally sporty or who are less active. We are hoping that children will enjoy the event and may come down to use the Community Bowling Green we have in Clayton-le-Woods. We are hoping it may encourage children to be more active, give them confidence and spend more time outdoors at the green.
Steps to get it done:
The funding we are asking for is £500. The Council are putting £500 towards the event to match the funding.
