The library software we use, Lend Engine, has the capacity to measure the carbon saving from the library. We input the type of device and material and the weight. The software then calculates the average carbon value of each tool, and what the value of savings are by preventing people from buying their own items. The total CO2 saved calculated to date is 610.5 Kg of CO2.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We ran a number of volunteer events, attracting a total of 26 individuals. The volunteers spend on a variety of tasks which were essential to getting ready for the opening. These included assessing and repairing the donated tools, researching and costing some items from the community Wishlist, entering the data into the database and meeting up to make decisions about pricing and benefits. In total, we held 9 sessions in the library space, with volunteers putting in extra time at home. In total, 65 hours were spent in setting up and sorting out the library by volunteers. We are very grateful for everyone to who gave their time to help us out. Two of the volunteers gave their time to join a small steering group alongside the project lead, and we met four or five times to make decision about issues such as the membership rates and borrowing fees. This was then turned into the Membership Agreement with the conditions being made available on the website.
