About the Project Creator
Street Scenes is a network of people who run creative, street events, where passers-by socialise, creating more inclusive communities. For almost 10 years we have run events, supported the network of event hosts, worked with partners and made the case for more culture on the streets.
We run a variety of events featuring interactive entertainments designed to engage members of the public. From traditional activities like drawing games and letter-writing, to more unusual novelties like The Smellery and Thought Exchange – they are designed to be easy and cheap to run, free to participate in and accessible to all.
Our vision is that cities across the country, starting with London, eventually have a steady stream of events occurring, run by self-sustaining volunteer networks, such that people are regularly welcomed to inclusive street gatherings, and know where to go if they want to find one.
In line with the evidence, this lifts the wellbeing of people who discover our events, and give a general sense of a friendly, open city to everyone who hears about them, with the collective benefits that would have.
Our network and online platform enable people to organise their own events. Supporting citizens to participate in creative, social gatherings on the streets reaches the widest possible audience. Currently, our events are enjoyed by almost 500 people each year.
We aim to build an organisation with a replicable model, acting at local level first, then scaling up across the city.
Eventually, we would like to host such regular public events that people all over London see Street Scenes as a welcoming and attractive social option.
Street Scenes is a registered charity.
