The idea
The project sets out increase the wildlife and prevent decline of the woodland from water erosion and trampling. The construction of a wild trial pathway through the woods and fenced habitats areas to allows wildlife to thrive and provide areas of additional interest for all users of the Common. The project’s activities aims to inspire long-term volunteer involvement with the woods and nature reserve , building relationships with people whilst build habitats for wildlife. the groups are a cross section of society. These group would include local primary schools colleges, groups with social difficulties including local homeless charities.
What we'll deliver
- Create new Pathway steps
- Build pathways for wildlife trial

- Building insect hotels and Stag beetle loggeries
- Create fenced habitats
- Hedgerow planting
- Building seasonal ponds to slow down water flow
Why it's a great idea
Is essential for the wildlife to thrive in the woodland.
Making it a resilient habitat, with the pressures from climate extremes and trampling, allowing access to all aspects of the community to enjoy wildlife and well-being. Improved biodiversity will be improved through a series of activities delivered by our volunteers under the guidance of the Head Ranger. Scrub and brambles will be cleared to allow more light to penetrate and enable other plant species to populate the woodland floor. There will be removal of invasive species from the woodland area and improvement of the soils where needed. Following that we will plant young indigenous trees, other understorey woodland plants and meadow plants to enhance butterfly and other insect numbers. New hedgerows will also be created to form an enhanced corridor beyond the woods.
The project will bring the wider community closer and broaden the reach of the woodland to many that may not know of its existence.
Steps to get it done
