Community gardening group to meet once a month in the St Peter's Church garden to undertake horticultural tasks and learn about gardening from an experienced leader.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We aim to appeal to local people who may feel isolated through loneliness, bereavement or illness. St Peter's is a graceful Grade II* Georgian church with a pretty, but neglected garden. By getting together as a group we can improve the green environment as well as provide friendly company for people who might otherwise have an empty day. Our leader is a very experienced, professional gardener who runs courses elsewhere in the area and she will create a schedule of activities which will reflect the seasons and improve our knowledge of plants, wildlife and care for the environment. Over time the garden will become more attractive to other local people as it is a designated council green space and is under used at the moment. We will be mindful of our carbon footprint so will compost and recycle when we can and use environmentally friendly products at all times. The aim of the group will be to befriend and support as well as to teach and learn.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
There are many people in our area who are lonely. We want to help them to feel that they belong in their community again. We also want to improve and nurture our lovely garden at St Peter's for everyone to enjoy, and to improve the environment for wildlife .
