More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

The project has proven very popular with residents. They are more responsible with their bikes and repairing them rather than discarding them. What started as a project for people who had bikes, however, the Peer Mentor saw an opportunity to repair some of the old discarded bikes and created a 'bike loan' system enabling residents without a bike of their own, to loan a bike. An excellent initiative that has proven very popular.

The local economy

The local economy

The bike project has reduced the number of bikes that are 'acquired' through other means, therefore resulting in a positive impact on local crime. Residents health and well-being had been improved as they are encouraged to use bikes

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We appointed a resident to the role of Bike Maintenance Peer Mentor. Peer Mentoring, using people with lived experience, provides residents a smooth transition to employment, they gain confidence and skills and manage, within reason the responsibility of a project.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

The project promotes physical exercise as residents are encouraged to use bikes. This improves both their physical and mental health and well-being
