Spotlight Youth Centre Radio Studio will enable young people from one of London's poorest areas to get creative, realise their potential and broadcast their success across the capital.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Spotlight Youth Centre is a world class facility being built in Poplar, East London. When it opens in Autumn 2013 it will house state of the art creative and media learning facilities and programmes, alongside a vast range of advice and support services. Spotlight will inspire local young people to develop skills, realise their potential and take their next steps into the world of work. The building is a result of genuine collaboration between young people, architects and service designers. The Radio Studio, at the heart of the building, has been planned following requests from literally hundreds of young people who can't wait to see the centre open and start broadcasting. Please help make their dreams come true!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Spotlight is being built in Poplar, one of the poorest areas in London, yet 10 minutes from the Olympic Park and Canary Wharf. Young people have told us they desperately want a place where they can take part in creative and learning activities, gain skills and confidence, get the advice and support they need and build a foundation for their future careers. They want a place that can link them to the opportunities the capital provides. Spotlight will provide that and is already demonstrating to local young people that they are valuable and valued. The Radio Studio is a vital addition that will broadcast young people's work from other spaces in the centre to the outside world via digital channels (Youtube, internet radio etc) and will give them the opportunity to learn skills such as presenting, radio production and sound engineering. Placing a Radio Studio at the heart of the Centre will enable more young people to be listened to. London should get ready to listen!
