Our community litter picking project aims to maximise the potential of clean-ups through broad engagement with the local community (residential and business). Our team works within Bordesley & Highgate to keep the busy Southside District area safe and clean. The aim is to influence behaviour change through boosting local community spirit, educating locals on litter pollution, empowering local people to take pride in their area and play a part in preventing and reducing littering through clean-ups and flytipping removal. We propose to undertake weekly cleans every Sunday and require £14,381 to get this project off the ground. The money will be used to purchase kit and equipment, design and print of marketing / promotional material, and to pay for wardens (x2) who will coordinate and run sessions as well as a trained professional street cleaner who will be responsible for picking and disposal of used hypodermic needles and other paraphernalia not safe for the general public to handle.

What we'll deliver:

  • Purchase necessary equipment to run project
  • Advertise project and sign up volunteers
  • Undertake weekly litter picking sessions involving local residents and staff from local businesses

Why it's a great idea:

Our project will improve the cleanliness of the Southside District, making it better for those who live, work and visit here. Our aim is to influence behaviour change through boosting local community spirit, educating locals on litter pollution, empowering local people to take pride in their area and play a part in preventing and reducing littering through clean-ups and fly tipping removal.

Steps to get it done:

  • Purchasing required equipment.
  • Advertising litter picks.
  • Signing up volunteers
  • Setting up and running weekly litter picks.
