The idea
Operationally the project will be embedded in the community of Portsmouth. We will develop pathways of volunteering through the operation of the building, café, cinema and local projects.
We will work with social partners to become part of the support network for people and agencies.
People will be the focus of our project. It is the individual outcomes that will form the Backbone of the projects success. We will ensure that paths and avenues are available to support individuals to grow and develop through the project.
We have temporary venue now at the Glasshouse, Southsea Pyramid and we hope this will be a good starting point for us.Southsea Community Cinema will host its first season at the Glass House in the Pyramid in December until March 2021. Family focused programming will favour rich and educational film examples rather than the run-of-the-mill blockbuster films. Filmmaking workshops will encourage students to produce their mini stories and share them with the public.
What we'll deliver
- To encourage exhibition of films of artistic, cultural or informative character.
- To advance the education of the public in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of film.
- To bring people together to share experiences. We aim for uniting different cultures and breaking down social barriers.
- To celebrate the diversity in community and show films for B.M.E. groups in the community.
Why it's a great idea
We are longing for a such a venue in our local area. We do not have local cinema in Southsea, Portsmouth.
We see a great opportunity in Southsea to tap into a prosperous and youth-orientated environment by working with other community and education groups that are open to innovation. Focus on underserved diverse groups in Southsea, Portsmouth and give them opportunity for express their culture and share with our audience by working with them to provide culturally interesting and sensitive films.
Our membership data shows that most of the film lovers are based in PO4 area and this encourages us a lot to start a cinema for all.
