This is the first edition of Southall Light Show, which aims to rediscover Southall's historical and contemporary buildings, squares, parks and canals, through a series of light art interventions.
This ambitious outdoor exhibition will aim to create surprise and delight with artworks inspired by the varied cultural backgrounds of local residents.
We aim to transform our nocturnal townscape by shedding light on the unique character of Southall!
#SouthallLightShow2017 #lightisauniversallanguage
What we'll deliver:
- Create 10 small scale temporary illuminated interventions from October to December 2017
- Conclude the project on New Years Eve with final cumulative artwork of the project
- Have health and safety measures in place for all aspects of the project.
- Install 5 larger scale Light Artworks forming a trail for one night in October 2017
- Run 10 community studio sessions in outdoor sites across Southall in August 2017
Why it's a great idea:
Southall is a melting pot of visual cultures, history and heritage - we want to celebrate this in a memorable way using the universal medium of light!
The outdoor studio days will promote neighbourliness by attracting members of the local community to come together to shape the light installations and make conversation.
We hope for it to provide a platform for residents to make new connections and instil a sense of ownership and enjoyment in all participants who contribute to visually enhancing their locality.
Steps to get it done:
- Project Finale for New Years Eve!
- Series of 10 Small Scale Light Installations from October to December 2017
- Trail of 5 Large Scale Light Installations forming a trail in October 2017
- 10 Outdoor Summer Studio Sessions in August 2017
We want our project to be inclusive of the many cultural groups present in Southall, highlighting their unique visual languages in a sensitive and uplifting way.
