More about our impact
Volunteering, jobs & education
We have very successfully recruited new volunteers (in part through using the Go-Volunteer platform) and have had a strong team of 15 active volunteers over the year that we ran the programme. This increase in volunteers has meant we could offer one to one support at most of the sessions when needed. In addition, the two people who have been part of the Silvers & Carers whilst completing our Facilitator Training Programme have both gone on to paid employment in the field, as well as two further members of the volunteer team now taking on paid part time hours with Imagine.
Arts, culture & heritage
The Silvers & Carers programme has become fundamental to our creative artistic- therapeutic community at Imagine. The Carers and Silvers groups each have formed their own creative communities where members feel valued and supported, and all enjoy opportunities for creative expression. Whilst we have a natural progression of membership of these groups, we now hold a waiting list which is largely maintained through word of mouth recommendation by existing group members. Many of our volunteer team have attended the entire year of sessions, and echo the sense of joy and community that they find at these sessions. We cannot overstate the importance of the continued opportunity for creative self- expression for all involved, this is particularly valuable as the Silver's clinical symptoms continue to progress, and the group is an especially important space for acknowledging when a member has moved to a care home or has died. Many carers continue to be part of the Imagine community even after the loss of their Silver.
Activity, health and leisure
This group met fortnightly and created a rhythm around a welcoming and accessible venue based right in the heart of Stroud’s mill heritage, between the canal and the river, within walking distance from the centre of town. Many volunteers and facilitators come to the session on foot. The participants have had the opportunity to engage in a social environment, applying and developing their fine motor skills, through hands-on activities as we hoped.
