More about our impact
The environment
Project involved relocating a miners pit wheel to land adjacent to Aged Miners Homes in Silksworth. The pit wheel is seated in a dedicated space and is surrounded by plant tubs and other heritage street furniture.
The local economy
The pit wheel has encouraged people to visit the local area of Silksworth encouraging dwell time which could in turn support the local economy
Arts, culture & heritage
Celebrating Sunderland's rich mining heritage is a priority. This project responded to Heritage Sunderland Partnership outcomes protecting and conserving stories, landscapes and structures. This project engaged people to learn about their past, understand it and has created opportunities for oral history, reminiscence and participation with young people and families.
Activity, health and leisure
The project has encouraged visits to the local area, supported residents to take pride in their local area and the area used as a space for people to engage in fitness and activity (walking)
