Northern Silents brings together live music with film to create inspiring events in the North of England. We're a Creative Partner of Morecambe Winter Gardens and have been working together for three and half years to bring a world-class programme of live-scored silent film to the venue.
Northern Silents grew out of Yorkshire Silent Film Festival, which was established in 2016. We are the UK's busiest presenter of live-scored silent film, and the only organisation which creating opportunities for musicians of all kinds, amateur and professional, to learn how to score films and create improvised music for films.
We work in village halls and churches, as well as theatres, concert halls, and cinemas. What we love most of all is working with beautiful heritage buildings and there is none more beautiful and inspiring than Morecambe Winter Gardens. We've loved being part of the story of this beautiful place, working with the amazing team of volunteers and their dynamic leader, Professor Vanessa Toulmin, and we're looking forward now to exciting years of development and new projects as the Winter Gardens itself is painstakingly restored to its full architectual glory.
