The idea
We are not just a bakery! We bake with communities of all kinds as a way of delivering training & opportunities for people.
We know that when people have access to employability skills & are valued as a creative part of a community, we all benefit.
We have a community bakery currently operating from a small rented kitchen in Shieldfield, Newcastle and we need more space to grow. We have finalised Heads of Terms for a 10 year lease from the council for a new bakery premises also in Shieldfield. The new premises have been empty for some years and was formerly a supermarket. The interior of the building needs some refurbishment to become a bakery.
What we'll deliver
- Replace suspended ceiling and line walls
- Install plumbing and water heating
- Install fire alarm and security system
- Work with the community to tile walls
Why it's a great idea
All our breads are a fair price & made from simple ingredients with organic flours. We work in innovative ways to keep money & other value in our local economy & protect our environment.
We have over five years experience using food and baking as a means to bring diverse communities together, develop agency within communities, create pathways to employment and make healthy food affordable and available to all. Shieldfield used to have a bakery and we want to bring one back which will serve both the local community and other communities across Tyneside and beyond.
