We are a community bakery & have secured a long term lease for new premises in Shieldfield. This campaign will fund the first, vital works on the building which will become our brand new bakery!
We are not just a bakery! We bake with communities of all kinds as a way of delivering training & opportunities for people. We know that when people have access to employability skills & are valued as a creative part of a community, we all benefit. We have a community bakery currently operating from a small rented kitchen in Shieldfield, Newcastle and we need more space to grow. We have finalised Heads of Terms for a 10 year lease from the council for a new bakery premises also in Shieldfield. The new premises have been empty for some years and was formerly a supermarket. The interior of the building needs some refurbishment to become a bakery.

All our breads are a fair price & made from simple ingredients with organic flours. We work in innovative ways to keep money & other value in our local economy & protect our environment. We have over five years experience using food and baking as a means to bring diverse communities together, develop agency within communities, create pathways to employment and make healthy food affordable and available to all. Shieldfield used to have a bakery and we want to bring one back which will serve both the local community and other communities across Tyneside and beyond.

Hi Everyone. Just to update you we have finished the renovation works and are now baking in our new home in Shieldfield. We won Best Food and Drink Stall at Living North Xmas Fair in Newcastle over weekend too. So thanks for all your help to get into our new home. There is one last thing needed to allow us to open the shop and training school alongside our bakery. We need an extraction hood so we have a crowdfunder currently live for the hood.
