Sheffield Carnival

Supreme Origins By Supreme Origins

Our vision is to create Sheffield Carnival, a free, family friendly, inclusive event incorporating vibrant costumes, a parade, music, food and cultural activities to reflect the diversity of the city.

Sheffield Delivery stage

£6,026
pledged of £6,556

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Our plan is to launch the first Sheffield Carnival at the annual Sheffield Fayre, to be held in Norfolk Heritage Park, Sheffield on Monday 28th August 2017. The event will run alongside the Sheffield Fayre and will consist of a parade made up of children and people from the local community who will display their carnival costumes in the "Sheffield Shines" parade. We want to celebrate everything Sheffield, the history, culture and heritage of Sheffield, what makes Sheffield unique and to showcase and celebrate the many cultures that reside in Sheffield. The theme for our very first carnival will be "Sheffield in Bloom".

What we'll deliver:

  • Host a free carnival event for all to attend and experience
  • Provide carnival arts development opportunities for local artists
  • Run community based workshops to create costumes for the parade

Why it's a great idea:

We want to put Sheffield on a par with other UK cities by hosting its own carnival event. We see this as a great opportunity to showcase Sheffield as a city of culture and a city for all. As Sheffield is such a vibrant and diverse city full of heritage and rich in its culture, it would seem only fitting to showcase this through the medium of dance, music and arts. Carnivals appeal to a wide range of people across generations, cultures and race, so we expect our target audience to be broad. Part of our vision is to encourage participation from the city and the wider region. To ensure we achieve this we intend to engage with schools, higher education institutions, community groups and organisations, existing local events and other carnivals to provide various participation opportunities both in our planning and delivery.

Steps to get it done:

  • Booking local talent and entertainment for the Carnival event day
  • Marketing the event to the city
  • Providing volunteering opportunities for local artists and students
  • Community workshops to make and build carnival costumes
  • Purchasing costume materials
  • The Sheffield Fayre Carnival event day

We've been working for a while to make this happen but have been restricted by limited funding. This is where your help would be really appreciated.
