SimpLee Swim is a small, not-for-profit swim school based in Swansea which provides swimming lessons exclusively for those with additional needs.
SimpLee Swim aspires to make swimming accessable, enjoyable and safe for everyone, no matter their need. Mainstream group swimming lessons are often not suitable for the swimmers who attend SimpLee Swim, therefore most of our swimming lessons are carried out on a 1-to-1 basis.
Working as a not-for-profit enables us to keep our lesson costs as low as possible so that our swimmers are not penalised as a result of their additonal needs, which often require a more expensive lesson format.
Specialised swimming teachers teach 1-to-1 lessons to all ages and abilities, as well as lessons to children in small groups. All of our swimmers are unique, and every individual requires a different lesson structure and technique in the pool. The majority of swimmers that attend SimpLee Swim lessons have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), we also have swimmers with Global Development Delay (GDD), those who have experienced early childhood trauma, as well as swimmers with physical and sensory disabilities including Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and hearing loss.
We are very aware at SimpLee Swim about the shocking statistics that those with additional needs are 160 times more likely to drown compared to their peers, and we are passionate about doing our bit to change this. Offering free summer swimming lessons to those with additional needs will help us to reach more swimmers and show them how to stay safe in the water during the summer months where families often spend more time in situations where water is present.
