The idea
The Send-sational project will create leisure activities and creative arts opportunities for families with children on the Autistic Spectrum, Attention Deficit Disorders and other related SEND within the Borough of Wandsworth. Sen Talk will focus on delivering sporting activities, family fun days and events to raise awareness of less- visible disabilities, but also promote opportuninties for children to engage in specific focussed enrichment which are not always available in mainstream settings.
What we'll deliver
- Arts equipment
- Marketing Materials
- Venue Hire
Why it's a great idea
Wandsworth Borough has a high proportion of young people, specifically aged 5-12 on the Autistic Spectrum compared to other London boroughs, who attend mainstream education. These higher functioning children often need additional support within these settings, which is not always possible, which means they often miss opportunities in leisure and creative adtivities due to mainstream barriers. Sen Talk aims to bridge the gap in this provisiona, but also support parents and carers by raising the profile of these particular conditions, creating a general sense of awareness within the community.
Steps to get it done
- To have 3 family fun days
- To have 50 families registered on the programmes
- To have atleast 20 children engaged in sports
- To offer an art project for children with SEND
- To run an ongoing art project
Higher Fuctioning Disabilites can be extremely challeging for individuals, often the expectations of social understanding is pressumed because of higher cogntive ability- when inreality these children lack confidence, social skills and engagment . Children with higher functioning Autism and ADHD are at higher risks of mental health conditions which is largely due to difficulties with anxiety.
