Selsey is an isolated deprived rural town of 11000 residents, 40% of whom are over 65. There are 189 people with a diagnosis of dementia. There are 3500 over 70's supposed to be self isolating.
We have needed to close the Selsey Care Shop and relocate all staff to home with laptops and work phones linked to Shop number. This will continue all our present work and support. We were asked to coordinate Covid-19 response, working in partnership with all other agencies. We have organised 120 buddies covering every road in town. This is covering Shopping, prescriptions and dog walking amongst other things. Our system has been commented on favourably by many residents and partners. All buddies are checked and provided with ID. A Facebook page, phone, email and text enables communication. We have distributed an informative magazine, Senior Selsey News, to 1000 most isolated elderly residents. Will continue regularly..next issue full of fun and hope! We have found food needs especially with families so in coordination with Foodbank and Lions have set up a welfare fund. We have uncovered many more people in need of daily phone calls for reassurance so have 2 staff and 7 volunteers.
What we'll deliver:

Worried people will know there is someone there Lonely people will receive a daily phone call Non internet users will receive a fortnightly informative magazine. Hungry children will be fed. Depressed people will be uplifted. Partnerships will be coordinated so nobody is missed. Volunteers receive help
Steps to get it done:
Selsey Community Forum holds 46 Forums a year bringing together statutory, charity and commercial partners. We discern local need and together seek solutions. The town has a good culture of neighbourliness, partnership and friendship. The Charity 1156460 runs Selsey Care Shop which offers support to voluntary Carers, people living with dementia, the lonely, bereaved, those in debt and low level mental health needs. This support is given through 400 monthly visitors to the Shop , 21 monthly activities and regular proactive telephone calls. We employ 6 staff for 69 hours per week. The charity is well trusted in the town and ideally able to bring people together quickly in a crisis. This community response was up and running in four days after an inter agency meeting. Weekly reports, notes of needs, comments and concerns are logged. The project is accountable to councils, medical centre, community Warden, Foodbank, churches and care homes. All safeguarding, data protection in place
