The idea
Horticulture is an amazing thing, not only is it a relaxing environment, you can also get great exercise or you can take it easy and keep it simple but at the end still produce beautiful things. This is what I want to bring to people, before I knew about organic horticulture, my diet was terrible and I was very unhealthy and depressed. Since joining the organic gardener lifestyle my whole life has changed, I'm happier and healthier and all it took was to learn a little about our food system and I was converted instantly. We rely on a broken food system that is detrimental to our planet, I want to teach people there is another way and also help people out of poverty along the way. I will do this by providing training opportunities to homeless/jobless people and also young people who haven't found their way in life yet. Also providing an occupational therapy area is important to me.
What we'll deliver
- Hiring mentors/tutors
- Marketing
- Rental of a appropriate space (glasshouse)
- Equipment (tools etc)
Why it's a great idea
If we continue down the route of animal agriculture and buying fruit and veg from overseas we will continue to damage our planet and obesity and other diet related illnesses will continue to take lives. Teaching people the benefits of growing your own food and also providing fresh produce to local communities whilst helping homeless and vulnerable people can only produce amazing results.
