Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Gurdwara was founded by S. Rashpal an inspirational figure to the lives of many since 1983.
The Gurdwara has been a crucial part of the local community for 37 years, providing somewhere for generations of people to come together for prayer, music and social events.
Like all Sikh Gurdwaras it has a free kitchen providing free vegetarian meals for those in need without prejudice, regardless of faith of social stature.
Unfortunately, the local area of Hexthorpe has seen wholesale degradation and sadly the Gurdwara has fallen victim of repeat burglaries and arson.
Thankfully this has not deterred the great work being carried out by the volunteers to gradually restore this iconic building to its former glory. However, we must ensure that all of this is not in vain!
We need YOUR help to secure this vital building from any future incidents allowing operations to continue benefiting the community as a whole.
What we'll deliver:
- Turn this much loved building into a buzzing source of wellbeing in one of Britain's most disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
- Continue to support the wider community.
Why it's a great idea:
Improving the security of the building will enable our volunteers to feel safe whilst carrying out selfless work which benefits the local community.
Better security will lead to an increase of congregation, our support network and ultimately improve our ability to assist the neighbourhood.
With the right focus and vision, we believe that we can play a pivotal role with transforming Hexthorpe and assist with providing the social and economic opportunities its residents deserve!
