The Pilot Cutter Seamark was set up with the sole purpose of preserving the Pilot Cutter named “Seamark”. Its main objective is to restore the vessel back to its former glory while actively engaging the local community.
The charitable trust was set up in 2011 when a group of enthusiasts purchased the “Seamark” from ABP and together arranged for the vessel to be towed back to Swansea from Cardiff Bay.
The original group of enthusiasts disbanded over the next 5 years after many efforts to get work started on the “Seamark” with numerous fundraising events. In 2017 a new group of trustees came together to carry the project forward. Formed of both old and new trustees the trust has been given new life to carry it forward.
The trust currently supports local communities in the following ways:
- Giving local apprentices a realistic project to work on in order to gain the necessary experience
- Giving a platform for local people to engage in a community project
The trust is looking to go on to support the local communities in the following ways:
- Showcasing an example of 19th and 20th-century industrial technology to schools, organisation, historical societies and other groups of people of all ages.
- A training platform for local rescue teams such as Fire and Rescue, RNLI, HM Coastguard and the MVS.
- A training facility for members of the Sea Cadet Corps.
