Formby Rotary is a member club of Rotary International, a voluntary organisation with countless clubs throughout the world whose aim is to serve their communities. Our members come from all walks of life, we enjoy regular meetings to plan our events in Formby, award funds to charities and organisations, socialise and have fun being active in our community. We are an inclusive group and everyone is welcome regardless of gender, race or disability. We have supported countless charities over the years, both big and small and love supporting local projects delivering real benefit here in Formby and the surrounding area. Be it an environmental project, educational or meeting social needs. We value everyone who has supported and helped us over the years. Through other projects we support Rotary International on projects such as the Polio Campaign, you may have seen the hundreds of purple crocus blooming across Formby, the purple crocus being the symbol of Rotary's leading work in this field.
For many years, the Carol Wagon has played an important part in our fundraising. Each year Rotarians, supported by members of the public, and others from business, charities etc, come together and plod the streets of Formby with Santa in the Carol Wagon. Collectors always say it is one of the best things they have done. The warmth of the reception they receive from the public far outweighs the cold and sometimes icy nights. Santa also visits nursing homes, schools and special schools, where he will spend several hours talking with folk and spreading seasonal goodwill. This is of special value to our special schools where their pupils can meet Santa in relaxed familiar surroundings. No request from a school to visit is ever refused. None of this would be possible without the support of the volunteers who collect, the people who come out and meet us, the people who donate so generously, and the Rotarians who genuinely look forward to Carol Wagon season! And of course our now 'Vintage' Carol Wagon.
