Save Our Space in Outlane, Huddersfield
We need to raise money to fund essential work to our church and community building to keep it open; it houses many weekly community groups that represent all ages across our local semi-rural area
About the Project Creator
The organisation is Outlane Methodist Church, which has a loyal membership, and has been a driving presence in the local community for 200 years! We are constantly exploring ways to be a church beyond our walls! Working together with our neighbouring village church, we provide innovative and popular monthly Messy Church meetings that welcome anyone from our community, and provide a meal and engaging activities. We have strong links with all the community groups that meet in our building and look to support all these thriving local organisations that choose to use our great space for their activities. The Scouting network, in particular, relies on the church building for the weekly meeting of its FIVE, sections, starting with Squirrels and ending with Explorers, for the older children, who regularly take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. They also benefit from the spacious cellar storage that the church can provide. The Outlane Singers, a mixed-voice choir numbering 50, has thrived since it's origin in Outlane Methodist Church in 2008. The Art Group regularly attracts 20+ keen members, who enjoy sharing and utilising their talents, and hosts an annual marvellous Art Exhibition in the building. The popular Baby and Toddler Group has been in existence for at least 50 years. We enjoy working with and supporting these groups through the use of our building and through including them in church events, such as the annual Remembrance Day Parade through the village, culminating in a village observance of Remembrance Day. We are working with our community friends to promote the fund-raising campaign to help 'Save Our Space'. Christmas and Easter are other times when the community gathers together in our vibrant space.
