The idea
Leonard Stanley Village Hall is an historic local building and essential rural community hub which has a history going back to 1850.
With the closure in 2022 of the last remaining local pub, the village hall is now the only venue in the village (except for the local school hall and a small scout hut) that can accommodate local community activities such as keep fit classes, social events, parties, clubs, playgroups, parish council mtgs, coffee mornings, etc., for local residents.
However, the building is very old, so it isn't energy efficient or even secure against the elements (the roof leaks regularly).
We therefore urgently need to get a new roof, including new insulation, guttering and repointing, for the village hall and the social club that shares the building.
What we'll deliver
- Install a new roof
- Install new insulation
- Install new guttering and repointing
Why it's a great idea
If the village hall was no longer here – which would be the ultimate outcome if the roof isn’t replaced – there would be nowhere suitable in Leonard Stanley to accommodate local community activities such as keep fit classes, social events, parties, clubs, playgroups, parish council mtgs, coffee mornings, etc., for local residents. Many of our regular hirers are also local small businesses who depend on the village hall as a venue where they can offer their products and services.
Steps to get it done
- Remove current tiles from the roof
- Install new breathable felt, new batons and new composite slates throughout
- Install 100mm insulation into roof
- Install new lead details where required
- Implement pointing where required
- Renew like-for-like gutters
- Supply skip for waste
- Provide scaffolding for safe works access
