The idea
Phase two of this project will involve funding for further works and equipment to enable demonstrations of open pan salt making to take place at a larger scale and for research into traditional techniques to be carried out with permanent larger pans and other salt making equipment. This will create an enhanced visitor experience.
It will also provide an equipped store/work room to facilitate research and future development of products to support the ongoing viability of the project.
What we'll deliver
- A permanent salt pan
- Trained volunteers performing salt demonstrations
Why it's a great idea
The project will complete the offer at the salt works, helping to drive people to visit the museum. It will help to explain the story of Cheshire salt to preserve the traditional skills that were essential in making the wealth of this region.
We want to develop a strong volunteering programme to give local people the opportunity to volunteer in an area where current volunteering opportunities are limited, helping to increase skills, employability and social opportunities.
We also want to offer the pan as a resource for local schools, helping to strengthen the educational offer at the Lion Salt Works.
Steps to get it done
- Refurbished building including equipped store/work room
- Installation of the first permanent salt pan
- Recruitment of new volunteers
- Collaboration with local schools
