The idea
The South London Art Map showcases over 190 galleries & studios over South London, providing visitors with a unique behind the scenes experience of some of the amazing spaces, curators and artists behind the thriving art scene in South London.
We aim to bring art to the forefront of our city and make galleries and art studios as accessible as possible by offering walking tours, a printed map and magazine you can pick up in cafes and bars, a great website to show you what is on when and a cool late night opening of art around South London.
In the coming year, we want to be able to continue building partnerships with local organisations in Lewisham and supporting emerging artists and arts spaces. We want to encourage people to discover art and cultural initiatives within Lewisham and bring a wide audience to the area.

What we'll deliver
- Continue to run www.southlondonartmap.com to enable galleries to list their exhibitions online
- Continue to support and promote emerging arts in South London via social media and marketing
- Engage local audiences by encouraging galleries to run late night SLAM Friday events
- Produce a new issue of the art map and distribute across Lewisham and South London
- Run SLAM Friday art tours to help people discover art in South London
Why it's a great idea
It is vital that local artists and arts organisations are supported, particularly when emerging and growing. The South London Art Map has built up a large and engaged audience and we want to continue to promote the activity of the galleries on our map to this audience.
By bringing visitors to Lewisham to explore galleries and studios and to take part in SLAM Friday art tours, this project will have both cultural and financial benefits for the local area and it's businesses and residents.
Steps to get it done
- Begin production on the new issue of the South London Art Map
- Continue management of website and online listings
- Continue to work closely with our member galleries in Lewisham to promote their activity
