Age UK Lindsey is an established and well respected, local, independent charity, which has been based in Horncastle, Lincolnshire for almost 20 years. We are a Brand Partner of the national Age UK charity and provide services in the Lincolnshire district council areas of East and West Lindsey and also North Lincolnshire, which takes in the areas of Skegness, Mablethorpe, Horncastle, Woodhall Spa and Louth in the east, Gainsborough and Market Rasen in the west and Scunthorpe, Brigg and Barton on Humber in the north. It is a geographically large and mainly rural area with some key urban settlements and has above the national average levels of older people.
The Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers work together to deliver services which will benefit older people and their families, with a main aim of helping to make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. The Board of Age UK Lindsey has 65% of the Trustees over the age of 60 years of age, with lived experience of being an older person.
We offer a wide range of support to older people and their families including a free Information and Advice Service; last year supporting older people in our area to claim over £2.5 million pounds of unclaimed welfare benefits, via home visiting, outreach, telephone and digital means. We also offer a Befriending Service supporting isolated and lonely older people; delivering over 4000 hours of support with over 70 volunteers.
Age UK Lindsey is very dependent on our volunteers and we ensure they are supported, trained and have appropriate DBS clearances in order to work for the charity. We are very keen to encourage younger volunteers in order to deliver intergenerational projects such as digital skills and we would like to encourage more younger volunteers to support this project.
We recognise because of the rural and coastal nature of our area and in particular the East Lindsey area, that loneliness and isolation are key issues and providing social activity opportunities is a way of supporting our older people.
