Towards the southerly end of Bishops Park a paved path leads through a curved iron arbour and down stone steps to the Rose Garden. Enclosed within a low stone wall the paved rose garden is on two levels, connected by a short flight of stone steps, the lower level being decorated with a stone urn and a number of wooden seats. Prior to the mid 1970s the area was devoted to ornamental bedding, each year commemorating a particular event and always including the Fulham coat of arms. Since the '70s the beds on both levels have contained rose bushes now looking unkempt and sad.The Friends of Bishop's Park are looking to raise funds for the restoration of the Rose Garden. This will include new rose bushes, as well as restoration of the area and metal edging for the beds on the second tier as this was never completed. This is the chosen project by the team of Park gardeners, and their volunteer group, working in the Park

What we'll deliver:

  • New metal edging
  • New rose bushes to replace any diseased plants
  • An enhanced space to relax
  • Additional gardening equipment for the gardening club

Why it's a great idea:

The restoration of the rose beds and supplementation of the rose bushes will enhance the area for all the community. At the moment it is regarded as a rather forgotten area between the Spanish memorial and Pryors Bank.We would like the restoration to be ready for the summer visitors to stop and to enjoy. They will be able to walk among not only an increased number of healthy beautiful flowering roses but will be able to enjoy their fragrance and to sit and enjoy the area. We envisage this area will become a welcome respite from the hurly burly of the rest of the Park, and FFC at the far northerly edge, where people will find their way to relax The Friends of Bishops Park, who are contributing to this campaign, are committed, along with the Council employees, the gardening team and gardening volunteers, to fund-raise for this recently much neglected space.

Steps to get it done:

  • Installation of metal edging
  • Replacement of diseased rose bushes
  • Additional gardening equipment
