The idea
This innovative project aims to transform local resources into beautiful, sustainable textiles while educating the community about eco-friendly fashion practices. Participants will engage in a hands-on journey from seed cultivation to eco-printing, learning how to grow natural dye plants and create unique, environmentally-conscious textiles.
Key components include:
Seed Cultivation: Participants will plant dye-producing flowers in upcycled containers, promoting sustainable gardening practices.
Plant Benefits and Tea Exploration: A tea tasting session will highlight the dual purpose of dye plants, emphasising their health benefits and safe consumption.
Eco-Printing Demonstration: Attendees will learn and practice eco-printing techniques, creating their own textile samples.
Upcycling Initiative: The project showcases creative ways to repurpose materials, reducing textile waste.
Objectives include educating about sustainable practices, up-cycling, and promoting local gardening.

By focusing on these key areas, the project aims to create a lasting impact on both individual participants and the broader community, contributing to a more sustainable and conscious approach to fashion.
Steps to get it done
- Workshop Development: Complete curriculum and materials for seed planting, natural dyeing, and eco-printing workshops.
- Partnership Establishment: Finalise collaboration with Age UK Sheffield for upcycling unsaleable clothing.
- Participant Recruitment: Reach target number of workshop participants
- Eco-Printing Workshop: Complete eco-printing workshops using harvested plants.
- Resource Creation: Develop and distribute PDF resources on sustainable fashion practices.
- Feedback and Evaluation: Collect and analyse participant feedback to improve future workshops.
This project is part of a larger pilot initiative in Doncaster, collaborating with Age UK Sheffield to upcycle unsaleable clothing that would otherwise be destined for the rag trade. By repurposing these garments, we aim to reduce textile waste while promoting sustainable fashion practices and community engagement. This partnership highlights our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, aligning with broader efforts to transform the fashion industry's environmental impact.
