More about our impact
The environment
The timber cladding improved the visual aesthetic of a large container on the stylish Roker beach front and the container was given a moss sedum roof to aid the visual impact from above as well as improving the drainage on the flat roof, minimising water run off and improving the environment.
The local economy
Sunderland council found a local contractor to install and clad the container. A local cafe has offered to keep a key for our volunteers to access, and we usually find our volunteers stay around for a coffee or two!
Volunteering, jobs & education
We are running a training day on the 16th of February for our initial group of volunteers, and we still hope to recruit a trustee from the local area.
Arts, culture & heritage
lots of culture takes place on the beach, sand castle competitions, school outings and now everyone will be able to get on the sand to enjoy these events
Activity, health and leisure
From all our other sites we hear stories about people fishing, wild swimming, dog walking, final trips to the beach, and simply sitting on the sand to have a picnic. All this in the fresh air, is now accessible to those who previously couldn't be with everyone else on the sand.
