We would like to provide fun in the outdoors by taking older people and those with disabilities for Rides in the Park using our existing fleet of adaptive bikes but also by using Trio taxi bikes that we wish to purchase. The Trio Taxi seats two passengers with one volunteer cycling the taxi. The benefits of cycling are the same for everyone, regardless of age or disability - it is fun, healthy and enables people to enjoy the outdoors and all the health benefits it offers. It is a shared experience for all those involved. There are few opportunities for exercise and fun for older people in care homes or the wider community, but with adapted bicycles and support from our volunteers and ride leaders, cycling can be enjoyed by people with a wide range of disabilities. The basis for providing these opportunities is well evidenced in research. There is increasing evidence that physical activity helps reduce cognitive impairment and dementia risk. Help us to make the Rides happen!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Rides in the park using Trio bikes means that older people with physical or mental health problems can experience the fun of cycling outdoors, wh o would not otherwise be able to ride a bike. It is a social event with people interacting with not only those riding the Trio Taxi but also those they meet along the way on the ride. Abbey Park is an ideal place to enjoy the outdoor. The events will provide for a great feeling off well-being, with the wind in your hair and hopefully the sun on your face! The feeling of the movement of the Trio Taxi is fantastic for anyone who has reduced or no mobility or for for those with low vision or who are blind.
