The idea
Marshlands Road Park is an abandoned field, previously containing a playground and football goal posts. Over the years it has become uneven, making it unsafe for the local elderly and disabled residents.
Our pioneering vision is to create the first Eco Park in the Neston area, usable by the whole community, promoting the environment and it’s importance to us all.
The first phase is to create pathways suitable for all ages and abilities and restore the football pitch to a smaller area.
The paths will be made from crushed limestone, creating a stable foundation to accommodate wheelchairs, walking aids and prams. Limestone is a natural material, with excellent water drainage and minimal impact on the environment.
The football area will be rejuvenated by repositioning the only goal post and installing a new goal post opposite. The area will be enclosed with a living edible fence. The new area will allow children and adults to keep fit, engage socially and improve overall mental wellbeing.
What we'll deliver
- Natural pathways suitable for all users
- Restoration of football area
- Native tree planting to encourage biodiversity, bear fruit for community and attract bees
Why it's a great idea
We will increase biodiversity by planting native trees and edible hedging, creating natural habitats for wildlife. Pathways created using natural, sustainable, responsibly sourced materials.
We have identified a large number of individuals and businesses who are keen to be involved with the development of this project, local allotment community and primary schools are eager to help with planting and harvesting fruit. The tranquil spaces created will promote mindfulness where all the community can visit to enhance their mental wellbeing and the positive benefits of being outdoors in nature.
The paths created will be suitable for all ages and abilities, including walking aids, prams and wheelchairs and usable all year round. Our community has an aging population and we are keen to encourage gentle exercise and socialise with others. Children will be able to follow the natural changes in the environment through the seasons and can create natural art to compliment our space.
