Friends of Rectory Park (FoRP) formed in 2010, we are all local residents and/or people interested in the Park. As a volunteer group we are funded by donations, grants and our own fundraising activities.
Our primary purpose is the regeneration and preservation of the Rectory Park, Thornhill. This historic park is a local community asset and a valuable green space for the people of Thornhill. Thornhill is an ex-mining village, with four large council/ex-council estates, all of which have high levels of deprivation.
Our aims and objectives can be seen in fully on our website, www.rectory-park.co.uk include:
- Providing a forum for public views about the park
- Lobbying for improvements to facilities in the park.
- Promoting initiatives which will safeguard community safety in and around the park.
- Harnessing the educational value of the park and encouraging people to take an active part in shaping the park’s future
- Providing an opportunity to improve the quality of life of local people and promote a positive image for park in the area.
- Conserving and improving the natural history and heritage value of the park together with the protection and extension of wildlife and botanical habitats.
We do our best to support the upkeep and maintenance of the park with regular working sessions. Unfortunately, Kirklees Council has serious financial constraints and Council work in the park has significantly reduced, so more is falling to us and often we feel like we are managing the decline of a highly valued facility.
