The Latest from Restoring Pathways in Croxteth Park
This has been one of the most successful projects we have undertaken. The area in question was subject to flooding and in Autumn/Winter resembled a quagmire. It has lots of exposed tree roots which was hazardous to walkers/runners and especially those with buggies and wheelchairs, and there was also a fair bit of erosion along this stretch which meant the path needed building up and also raising to allow adequate drainage into the River Alt. We needed to insert drainage under the pathway, latterly we want to enhance the physical natural environment by planting trees and native woodland plants.
All of this improved public access to the site and also enhanced biodiversity and natural environment using nature based solutions.
In order to fund the project, we set a crowdfunding appeal and with the support of the general public, the Mayors Fund and contributions from local Ward members we manged to reach our target to fully fund the project which was fantastic!
Working with Helen Rawlinson, Green Infrastructure Project Manager for Liverpool Council and Lancashire Wildlife Trust Contract Team we surveyed the site and agreed a plan of action and the work commenced in March 2020.
The team from LWT did an amazing job of restoring the pathway much to the delight of regular park users who complimented the team on a daily basis
Moving forward we will undertake a programme of planting of trees and native species alongside pathway to provide a future healthy forest environment.
The restoration has resulted in a safer, more accessible environment for all park users to enjoy
