We want to change people's views of waste by creating a recycling point for the community. Replastic hopes to demonstrate that circular waste economies are part of a solution to local plastic problem
Replastic is a not for profit initiative by Repair Reuse Recycle CIC. Our mission is to change people’s perception of waste with innovation and creativity. Based on Precious Plastic's model, Replastic will be creating a recycling opportunity with community involvement. We can create non-industrial scaled solution that can recycle 6 of the 7 types of plastic - including many things that aren't recycled by the council. With the first of our four machines ready, we will be starting our initiative by collecting domestic and commercial plastic waste from an already agreed network of collection points amongst local independent cafes. So far we have a shredder that can break down plastic waste into a state ready for the next stage of recycling. We now need to raise money for our second machine and our first moulds to turn this plastic waste into a sustainable product with a use for life.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
From day 1 our project will reduce the amount of plastics being landfilled. Many large businesses & supermarkets are taking a "phase out" approach to single-use plastics. Replastic hopes to be part of a more immediate solution to plastic waste whilst this develops. We are a local 'not for profit' solution to the problem of landfill We hope to help reduce council costs and waste by recycling plastic which they can't yet recycle from kerbside collection. Our project works towards support local independent businesses by helping them with their commercial waste costs by collecting their plastic waste for free
